Kate wiped her hands on her apron and tucked a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear. Looking at the clock, there were only 15 more minutes left before closing. Most of the employees had gone for the day. At this time of night, there were only three of them left in the shop.

Dylan, her supervisor, and Chad, a fellow employee, were in the kitchen. She could hear the clatter of pots and pans as they loaded the dishwasher. She had been working at Pizza on Pacific for the past month. The hours were good and she got along well with her coworkers.

A gust of cold air flooded the room as the door opened.

A frazzled looking woman entered and picked up a large pepperoni pizza. Kate locked the door after her, closed the blinds, and took out the cash tray to count the night deposit.

Dylan came out to double check her numbers and sat across from her in one of the small booths.
