Smith opened his bedroom door and got in. Mandy, his wife, who was seated on their bed got excited and ran to him. After the usual greeting, Smith sat on the bed for the usual rituals. Mandy removed his shoes and took his coat then asked the help to bring him food in the bedroom since he seriously looked tired.

“So how was your late night meeting? Hope they didn’t stress you too much?” Mandy sat next to him on the bed so that she was able to read his lips carefully. It had been three years since the accident rendered her deaf. She had been trying her level best to communicate with him despite the difficulty.

Smith kissed her on the forehead.

“How is your therapy going? I talked to Dr. Miller yesterday and she said that…” he started

“I’m not useless. I don’t see the point of learning sign language if the person next to me won’t understand what I’m saying. You need to let what happened go. Unless you are getting tired of me!” she cut him off abruptly.

Smith looked at her then played with her locks. She had been through a lot and it had been his entire fault. How could he tell her that what he had been up to? All those late meetings and lunch breaks?
