Valerie felt her best friend's eyes on her as she took another swig out of the wine bottle. She could tell that Sophie felt sorry for her, but there was no way the other woman would ever know what she was feeling. After years and years of always trying to be the best version of herself, she had finally caved in after one lone incident. Sophie could never understand what it felt like to lose all you'd work for or to always trust the wrong people and how it felt when they betrayed you. She would never know this pain because she would always have Valerie to protect her. Valerie hoped that this sweet woman would never know what all that felt like.

"I think we should go home Val," Sophie said her voice small and shy. She reached out to take the bottle from her, but she was harshly pushed away buy Val who finally thought she could find peace at the bottom of the bottle. She knew better than to think that but hoped that she would be okay just for once.

Sophie's eyes wandered around the room where everyone looked at her best friend. From their eyes, she could see a mixture of pity and disgust. She felt the same way about her friend. She had never seen Valerie act out like this before even when she knew that her friend was going through so much pain. Valerie never liked to let people see what she was feeling. On any other day, she wouldn't have let herself turn into a mess with anyone watching her but then again this was not a normal day for her. Sophie couldn't say she understood what she felt. All she knew was that her best friend needed her and after everything Val had done for her over the years, it was time she returned the favor.
